Every release has its own mushroom name, and a name is never reused.
The names run in season order, so the name says roughly when a release
appeared. A new release comes out when enough has accumulated since the
last one to be worth telling you about, and at most once a week. The
app shows its own version at the bottom of the menu. The service has
been running since spring 2026; the named releases start here.

The app now speaks English. The language comes from your
phone's own setting, and you can change it at the foot of the menu
or in the top right corner of the sign-in screen. The choice is
remembered. The Finnish did not change by a word.
Figures and dates follow the language too: in English a
distance reads 1.2 km rather than 1,2 km, which an English reader
reads as a thousand.
The forest vocabulary is fully translated: site types, tree
species, felling classes and the base map names. Mushroom names
stay Finnish in both languages, because kanttarelli is what the
species is called rather than a word to translate.
Error messages from the server now arrive in your language.
Before this, the server's own wording could reach the screen.
Links between the site and the app carry the language both ways,
so an English reader lands in English and comes back to English.

A new layer, Missä on nyt parasta (where it is best right
now), answers the question of which way to drive. It colours the
map from red to green: red is dry, green is worth the trip. You
see the direction at a glance, without scrolling the map back and
forth. The layer is meant for zoomed-out use and works best over
the aerial photo. Zoomed in close the whole screen falls inside
one observation, and the map chip says so. The map stays readable
through the colour.
The mushroom maps can now say when as well as where. The
Painota sään ja kauden mukaan (weight by weather and
season) option drains a species layer toward grey where the
species is out of season or the ground is dry, and leaves it at
full colour where the trip is worth making. Before this, November
painted chanterelle ground exactly as brightly as August.
Both read the weather, not only the calendar. Every night,
observations from the Finnish Meteorological Institute give how
much rain has fallen over one week and over three, how warm it has
been, and how many nights of hard frost are behind us. Rain works
with a per-species lag: chanterelles come up roughly a fortnight
after a proper rain, funnel chanterelles later and in colder
weather.
The accuracy is worth knowing. Rain is measured by rain
gauges, of which there are about 170 in the whole country, so
roughly one every 50 kilometres. The map is drawn on a ten
kilometre grid, but its real resolution is that spacing between
gauges. The numbers describe an area, never a single slope or
hollow. Temperature and frost are measured more densely, at about
190 stations.
The weighting is local. One screen can be at full colour in
the west and dim in the east, because the rain did not reach
everywhere. So a single screen also tells you which way to drive.
Under the option you can see the numbers it runs on: rain
over a week and over three weeks, the mean temperature and the
frost nights, for the middle of the map. The observation date is
there too. A dimmed layer whose reasons you cannot check is a
layer you have to take on trust.
Every species has a meter showing how far from good it is,
with a mark where paras aika (the best time) begins. One
word cannot separate barely dry from bone dry, and that difference
decides whether you go today or wait for rain.
The colour still means terrain. A species layer never
disappears entirely, because grey terrain is still the right
terrain and in November false morel ground is worth looking at.
The app also says why a layer is dim: ei vielä (not yet),
alkamassa (starting), paras aika (the best time),
kuivaa (dry), loppumassa (ending) or ohi
(over).
Both layers are off by default and the choice is
remembered. Switched off, the map is exactly what it was.
Fix: the button rail on the right edge of the map no longer
swallows taps meant for the Peru (cancel) button behind it.
Fix: the sheet header no longer lets content show through
when a long menu is scrolled.

The location button now follows: the map travels with you
as you walk, until you move the map yourself with a finger. The
button is blue while following is on, and starting a trip turns
following on by itself. Before, the button centred the map once
and let go, which feedback quite rightly pointed out.
A new sun button keeps the screen awake outside a trip too.
A dark screen stops positioning, so the button sits at the edge of
the map within reach of one hand, and the choice is remembered
next time you open the app.
Hiding a route works. A finished trip's own line now leaves
the map instead of staying visible underneath the hidden route. A
shown route can also be dismissed straight from the map, from the
cross on the Reitti näkyvissä bar, without opening the menu again.
Search recognises a property identifier (for example
91-17-16-1) and takes the map to that parcel. Your own markings
from around the parcel come up in the same list, so you also see
what has already been found there.
A mushroom spot marked with no network no longer disappears.
It waits in a queue, shows on the map immediately, and saves itself
when the network comes back. A queued spot is the one with the
amber ring.
Deleting a marking now takes two presses: the first arms it
and the second deletes.
A tidier screen: at most one panel is open at a time, notices line
up in one column under the top bar, the top bar buttons grew to
finger size, and a chanterelle grows on the loading screen.
A spot's Vain minä (only me) choice now holds. The form used
to restore the group choice by itself on the next position update,
so a private spot was in practice impossible to mark.
If a payment fails, the payment screen offers a way to report it
immediately: a button appears under the error message. The
message gets through even when the account has not been paid for.

Search now also finds lean-to shelters, parking places, swimming
beaches and shops, not only place names and addresses. The same
search box, the same results in one list, and every result says how
far it is from the middle of the map.
A new map layer: upcoming fellings. It draws the valid
forest use declarations, meaning the stands where a felling has
been declared. If one of your mushroom spots falls on such a stand,
there is time to go through it before the felling. Tapping a stand
shows what was declared: the felling method, the declaration date
and the area. A declaration is not a felling: some are never
carried out, and small household fellings are not declared at all.
The map layers have been reorganised. The base map is still chosen
from one list, but the layers are now grouped by the question they
answer: terrain, mushrooms, forest data. There is one button that
turns every layer off at once. The edge of the map says what has
been drawn on it, so you can tell at a glance.
